An 83-year-old Penns Valley man died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Haines Township.

George R. Daulby, of Coburn, died of blunt force trauma suffered in the rollover crash on Route 45 near the intersection with Fiedler Road, according to Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers and state police at Rockview.

Daulby was driving westbound at about 2:40 p.m. when he went out of the lane and struck a roadside ditch with the undercarriage of his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, police wrote in a crash report on Wednesday. After continuing westbound, he struck a second culvert, causing the truck to go airborne.

The vehicle flipped end over end one time and rotated 180 degrees before coming to rest on its wheels in the road, police wrote.

Sayers pronounced Daulby dead at the scene. A state trooper said Daulby was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The road was closed in the area of the crash for about two hours.

Millheim Fire Company, Penns Valley EMS, Pleasant Gap Fire Company and Kuppel’s Auto Center also assisted at the scene.
